Ma7da Race Car (Trailer Also Available)

Launched in 2020 and achieving championship status the very next year, the 750MC Ma7da Championship for Locost chassis with 150 bhp+ Mazda MX-5 1.8 VVT engines has gone from strength to strength. With fields regularly topping 20 well-matched cars which love to slipstream, the racing is close and exhilarating and the paddock community adds to the experience.

Attracted by the high-quality competition, Imran Khan and I bought this car as a frontrunning Locost and converted it to Ma7da specification. With Toyo R888R tyres, disc brakes all round and that free-revving engine, it’s fast and thrilling wherever you drive it, and impossible not to jump out with a smile!

We’ve competed across 3 seasons and thoroughly enjoyed the experience, culminating in a 2nd place finish in the car’s last meeting at Oulton Park in 2025. Now we are campaigning my BMW E36 in the Roadsports Championship, it’s time for the Ma7da to move on.

The car in detail:

• Locost chassis with very high-quality lightweight Caterham-based rollcage – a major factor in us choosing this car
• Mazda MX-5 Mk2.5 1.8 VVT engine, control exhaust manifold, 200 cell cat & Emerald ECU
• 5-speed MX-5 gearbox with hydraulic clutch
• Double-wishbone front suspension with anti-roll bar. Adjustable dampers which were serviced by SP suspension just prior to our ownership.
• New steering rack and suspension mounts reworked in 2024 by Team Sellars Racing to latest spec (additional caster, etc).
• Recent complete rear axle rebuild by Dan Garrett (DG-RE). 4 wheel alignment and corner-weighted. Differential rebuilt early on in our ownership and still in perfect condition.
• Floor-mounted OBP bias-adjustable pedal box
• Fuel swirl pot and properly baffled tank to maximise usable capacity
• High-performance radiator and fan – no problem slipstreaming even in 30°C ambient
• Maximum permitted underskinning and minimal frontal area for lowest drag
• Regulation Toyo R888R tyres with good life, on lightweight Compomotive CXR wheels
• Includes spare Minilite wheels and some race day spares: wheelarches, coil packs, sensors, springs, etc.

The body panels could be improved. They are functional but it would benefit from a new bonnet and nose-cone to look it’s best! There are also some racing scars on the rear panel and plenty of gravel-rash on the vinyl wrap. All purely cosmetic of course!

At 560 kg without fuel, it gives a very comfortable margin to the championship limit of 665 kg with driver. We took it to Oulton Park this week (18th August) to make sure everything felt spot on, and that just made the sale even harder!

The car is in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire and available immediately. It’s fully compliant with the 2026 Ma7da Championship regulations and would also be welcome in the CSCC Magnificent Sevens series.

It’ll require new belts, which we have left up to the new owner to choose, and an extinguisher service but is otherwise ready to race – right down to the tyres. It would also make a superb track day car, quick & entertaining with very low running and spares costs.
