Richard Scott was Centaur Engineering – a one-man team designing and building Centaur Cars mostly for 750, 1300, and Clubmans formulae. Some of the older Clubmans Register members will recall Centaurs being raced, successfully, by a number of Clubmans drivers (for example Richard Groombridge, David Childs, Peter Clark and David Orchard). I also raced Centaurs between 1967 and 1979 in which time Richard and I became very good friends. Not only was Richard a designer and constructor of racing cars but also he was a well-known, very talented artist (painter and sculptor). He was a very kind, good humoured and self-effacing individual. Without his help and support at the start of my involvement in racing I doubt if I would have enjoyed so many years of Clubmans racing.
He is survived by his wife, Lesley, and two daughters. I am sure you will join me in offering them my sincerest condolences.”
