Formula Vee Championship

The most cost effective route into single-seater racing in the UK, for more than 50 years. A variety of constructors offer a complete car or a bare chassis and many cars have been converted from Formula Ford ‘Kent’ chassis. Wings and other aerodynamic aids are prohibited. 

Engine

1300cc air-cooled VW Type 1/2/3 engine. Restrictions on valve sizes, bore & stroke; compression ratio and camshaft are free. Induction is two chokes, with restrictor plates. Engine power is about 95bhp and average lap speeds are 90 - 95 mph.

Chassis

Single-seaters, of free design and construction. Chassis are available from a variety of constructors, self-designed or often converted Formula Ford 'Kent' chassis. Wings and other aerodynamic aids are prohibited.

Suspension

Front is VW axle, hubs, stub axles and torsion bar. The majority of the VW rear suspension components have to be used.

Brakes

VW ‘Beetle’ discs (or drums) on the front with VW drums on the rear.

Transmission

The VW Type 1 gearbox must be used, along with set VW ratios. Limited slip diff or similar traction-control is prohibited.

Tyres

All cars must use the Hoosier control tyre.

Rounds

There are typically seven double-header race weekends, comprising 14 rounds each season.

Classes

In addition to the main championship, cars may also be eligible for Class B awards depending on technical specification. 

Costs

Club racing membership is £95 for 12 months, season registration is £155, and double-header weekend entry fees (qualifying and 2 x 15min races) are typically between £345 and £395 depending on the circuit. Eligible cars are available secondhand from just £6000.
