The '2016 John Miles Novice Driver Award'
Thu 26 May 2016
Following last year’s ‘John Miles Young Driver Award’, which led to Stuart Sellars winning £2000 towards racing for his achievements in the 2015 Demon Tweeks | Yokohama Locost Championship, the 750 Motor Club is delighted to announce that John will sponsor a different prize once again for the Club’s 2016 season.
Rather than repeat 2015’s Young Driver or 2014’s Design and Innovation awards, this year John plans on turning his attentions toward spotting talented drivers who still display the yellow and black-decaled hallmark of a novice racer on the rear of their car. He has attended and will continue to frequent a number of our race meetings throughout this season to pick a winner for his 2016 ‘750 Motor Club Novice Driver Award’. John will once again donate a generous £1000 cash prize to the winner, and the 750 Motor Club will match this amount in credit against entry fees for the 2017 season.
Should any of the applicants also be novices in racing history; prior to transitioning towards a long and successful career in automotive engineering, John’s past achievements were as a driver of considerable repute. He graduated from club sportscar racing and went on to race in the European Touring Car Championship as well as international sportscar events, winning the 1971 RAC British Sports Car Championship along the way. It wasn’t all sportscars though; John also made it all the way up to Formula One, starting a total of 15 Grand Prix and coming away with a best finish of 5th place in the 1970 South African GP.
In order to be considered for the award, drivers must fulfil the following criteria:
-
Be registered for a 2016 750 Motor Club Championship or Series
-
Compete as a novice in 750 Motor Club race meetings during 2016, having done no more than two races in 2015
Interested drivers should enter via email with a racing ‘CV’ and photo of their current racecar to giles@750mc.co.uk
